Gwinnett County Chair Nicole Love Hendrickson Faces Allegations of Impropriety in Project Approval
Gwinnett County, GA, May 13, 2024 —Concerned citizens in Gwinnett County are demanding an impartial review of allegations of impropriety by Gwinnett County Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson. She approved a project under conditions that may constitute a quid pro quo transaction and undue influence by the developer, Brand Properties, LLC. The initial recommendation in August 2022, from the Planning Director’s staff to the Planning and Development Commission, was that the project should be denied, a motion that was voted on by Commissioner Matthew Holtkamp of District 4 and seconded by Commissioner Jasper Watkins of District 3. Despite that initial recommendation for rejection, the project mysteriously reappeared on the Commission’s consent agenda in September 2022. It was subsequently tabled without a public hearing in October 2022 and July 2023. Finally, in August 2023, the project was approved by Chairwoman Hendrickson. Notably, after a fundraiser was held for her on June 8, 2023, and significant campaign contributions from individuals associated with Brand Properties, the owner of the project, were made. The Chairwoman should have recused herself from this vote.
Project Details:
- Project Name: 2022-0914 RZM2022-00028

- Owner: First Covenant Bank

- Parcel Nos.: R7132 003 and 044

- District: 4/Holtkamp
The allegations of quid pro quo and undue influence warrant a thorough investigation. Chairwoman Hendrickson’s actions demand transparency and accountability, and concerned citizens are calling for an impartial review of the matter.
